Billfish Working Group

General Information

The ISC Billfish Working Group (BILLWG) provides scientific information on the current status and estimates of future trends in abundance and productivity of billfishes in the North Pacific Ocean to resource managers. This information provides the technical basis for setting annual fishery catch quotas and other management measures that are intended to optimize yield from the fishery while avoiding overfishing and ecosystem harm. The BILLWG focuses on conducting stock assessments for striped marlin (Kajikia audax), blue marlin (Makaira nigricans), and swordfish (Xiphias gladius).
